Dr. Leif J. Sigurdson

Dr. Leif Sigurdson has been a plastic surgeon for over 10 years.  He studied medicine at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, and completed his surgery internship and residency at Dalhousie University in Halifax.  From 1997 to 1999, Dr. Sigurdson completed two fellowships in clinical plastic surgery at Dalhousie University and Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.  In 2008, he joined the Section of Plastic Surgery, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Manitoba as an Associate Professor of Surgery. Dr. Sigurdson was the Program Director, Section of Plastic Surgery at the University of Manitoba from February 2009 until March 2011. At present he is the Chair of the Surgical standards committee at the Health Sciences Center in Winnipeg.

One of Dr. Sigurdson’s many research interests is the information needs of breast reconstruction patients.  He became of member of the Breast Reconstruction Team in 2008.

Since 1996, Dr. Sigurdson has made 11 trips with Operation Smile, travelling to Ecuador, China, Peru, Honduras, Bolivia, Paraguay and Russia to correct cleft lips and palates.  In addition to his medical training, Dr. Sigurdson holds a Masters Degree in Public Health and Epidemiology from Dalhousie University and an MBA from St. Mary’s University in Halifax.
